NCB Cayman has this month made a donation to feedourfuturecayman.org. Since March 2020 and in immediate response to the Covid-19 school closures, FOF in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Government and the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman has been running ‘Buy a Kid Breakfast’ and launched the ‘Home School Lunch Program’ (HSLP) in lieu of the regular meal programs run in schools. At this time the programme provides sustenance for just under 500 vulnerable children in the Cayman Islands.
Through the HSLP students have continued to benefit from the delivery of a healthy and
hot lunch or supermarket voucher of equivalent value to the school lunch usually
received through the school canteen. The choice of support has largely depended on the
level of the student with Secondary students being on a voucher programme solely from
the outset. Such support also included the Easter break when students do not usually benefit from a meal at school.
From a financial resource standpoint FOF will need to continue to fund raise at similar
levels as before or greater in order to be ready for the 2020/2021 school year and thereby able to continue the services to the vulnerable in our community in the long term.
